Rangers 5, Stars 2…Austin W: really pissed off!

Rangers & Avery have big night vs. Turco & Stars

Tonight was horrid. After getting outplayed last night in New Jersey, Dallas goes into Madison Square Garden and looks like crap again. Last night can be slightly explained, back-up goalie in the net and playing on of the top 5 teams in the league on the road. Just a bad effort. Tonight though has to be worse. Marty Turco has been letting in some weak goals all season long after not looking good last year either. But tonight two of the New York Rangers’ goals, if not three, could have been stopped and should be stopped by someone who was a few years ago one of the top 10 goalies in the league. But this year just continues to prove that Turco is declining and just does not have it anymore. Its frustrating to watch. I know he has a defense in front of him that is mostly young and is still working on Marc Crawford‘s system. But Turco is letting in shots that most AHL goalies can stop. It seems on average he is letting in one weak goal a game, and if he doesn’t let one in then the next game expect 2 or 3. Crawford and 1st year GM Joe Nieuwendyk have to figure something out, or make a move. I don’t really trust Alex Auld as the starter, as he has not looked good really for the last month either. He has one great start recently against Columbus and other then that Auld has been playing about the same level as Turco. Sure Turco is one of the best puck-handling goalies in the league and has been a big part of the Stars for the last 8-9 years, but his time is coming to an end.

Dallas’s best players tonight were the two NY D-men that the two Dallas goals went in off of, and the Rangers best player was sadly Sean Avery. Avery puts up a goal (a shot Marty could have stopped) and three assists as just about everyone on the Dallas blue-line looked bad at times tonight. The only great play to me was Karlis Skrastins making an amazing dive to save another goal on Marty, but New York got the empty-netter late to make it 5-2. Dallas offense has been bad as well in this three game slump, with only 3 goals in 3 games and two of them coming tonight off New York defensemen. Dallas has now been outscored 12-3 in the last three games. And Dallas keeps getting their shots, tonight they outshot the Rangers 27-25 and had 6 PP chances, but did not get anything to show for it.

Overall, something has to change on this team, or just let them slide the rest of the year and rebuild next year with a new goalie and Modano and Lehtinen probably retired. Trading though would be hard since the Stars don’t have money really to use despite being way under the cap because of the current situation with owner Tom Hicks. It is just extremely frustrating to watch most nights and not something fans are used to recently in Dallas as the Stars for most of the last 15 years have been a playoff team and a team build around strong goalie play.

But today I proclaim Marty done. Cooked. Dead. Thank you for your years of service, but R.I.P. the Marty Turco the Stars used to know. Leave your thoughts below: Should Dallas go with Auld, make a trade, or just finish the year like this?
