Miracles can happen...maybe: Dallas 4, NYI 3

Dallas survives to win 4-3 over Islanders

Dallas finally got a win last night. The Dallas Stars were able to get the better of the New York Islanders despite bad bounces and bad handling of the puck by Marty Turco and get a 4-3 win. Dallas was able to end the 3-game skid and get a win. The sad thing is I don’t think Dallas can take too much from this win. First, they beat the Islanders. Yes they have young talent and aren’t too far behind Dallas in points, what do you think of when you hear the Islanders? They are like the L.A. Clippers of hockey, same city as a top historical team in the league, but have had a rough recent history. Just like the Clippers the Islanders have not done too much in recent history and are a team that most top teams see as a very likely win.

Second thing about this game, Turco was not good. He got better in the third and got a couple lucky breaks in the closing seconds, but the Islanders almost came back late and they should not have been in the game anyways. Two of the Islanders goals came off of bad positioning or handling of the puck by Marty, and not just he played it bad and they kept it in the zone. No, more like Marty was the direct reason the puck went in. Yes one was a bad bounce on a dump in, but he shifted way to much to try and do something with the puck. The other one Marty had control of the puck on his stick, but did not pass it out quick enough or know his surroundings. Marty, this is hockey not football, you do not have to play quarterback back there.

Third and final main reason Dallas can not take too much from this win is it was back at home. Dallas’s woes have not been at home recently. Dallas is 9-2-2 in their last 13 at home, making visits to the AAC fun for the fans and the Stars. But Dallas can not play at the same level on the road, going 1-6-3 in their last 10 road games. And now Dallas have three on the road, two back home, and then three more out on the road. Dallas has to find a way to take the way they have been playing at home onto the road with them. If not this season could be just about done for the Stars by the Olympic break. We are continuing to move toward the point were playoff teams start playing better and trying to make pushes up the standings, and the teams headed for early golf-trips can’t find consistency and wins. Which one will Dallas be?

(I will have more up soon peps, I have been busy the last few days buying a car and getting rid of my old one and today is the Cowboys playoff game. GO COWBOYS! either tomorrow or monday I will look forward to this 3 game road-trip. Enjoy the weekend!)
