Stars 3, Avalanche 2
We won again? Too much more of this and we will start expecting wins from this team again. The Dallas Stars played some solid defense and Mike Modano looked like he was 30 last night, as the Stars win another at home 3-2 over the Colorado Avalanche. It was another good win for Dallas, 5 straight at home now and 5 out of the last 7.
Last night has already been referred to a lot as “vintage” Modano. And it is quite true. Mike’s speed was on display, especially with his first goal were he seemed to be moving as fast as he did in his 20s and flip a puck on net from behind the crease that bounces in the goal. Modano also get the game winner in front of the net off a loose puck. But throughout the night he was constantly handling the puck and giving the Colorado defense a hard time. It was great for him to show he still can be a 2nd 0r 3rd line guy, something many people have questioned this year as we near the end of his career. But he showed he still can skate, he still can play, and he still can score. Mo has now pocketed 6 goals in the last 8 games, going a long with the increase in time he has seen since Ribeiro went down and this week Wandell. Crawford has to be wondering why he kept leaving down at the bottom of the team with not many minutes with his recent play. Sure he has been on the number 3 or every once in a while 2 line, but he is producing and making the young guys around him look better.
Another big night too for Alex Auld, who played his butt off for the most part and held Colorado from scoring a few keys times after Dallas got the lead back in the 3rd. 4 wins in his last 5 starts is not a bad stat, and it seems although he may be giving up around what Turco was, he isn’t giving up weak goals and is making big stops. And the team is responding, because I just seems to notice an overall better looking team on the ice when Auld is out there. They support him and seem more up-beat recently with him in the crease.
So now Dallas will go from something they have not done all season: Get 3 wins in a row. Two has been this teams max this season, but are hot at home and need the point because of how they are playing on the road. Division rival Phoenix is coming in for the next game, number 3 out of 4 in a row, at the AAC. The game has a strange start time at 5pm CST. Is it a afternoon game or night game??? I can’t remember the last time the Stars had a 5pm home game, but hopefully it does not throw them off and they can keep this streak going. As the standing sit right now, Dallas is only 2 points out of the 8th playoff spot, and only 8 points behind Phoenix who is sitting at 4th in the West.
