Taking over the capital & hunting in Buffalo tonight

Stars 4, Caps 3 (shootout 2-1 Dallas)

What a win! How many people really thought that Dallas could go into D.C. and steal a game against the best home team in the league? After the last three games, some of us thought Dallas would have to score 5-6 goals just to have a chance. But Marty Turco again pulls some sort of old magic out of his hat after playing bad in his last two starts. The defense played better but there were still times that Turco was the only reason the Stars were even in the game. Still Dallas is down 2-0 after the 2nd period and is not doing to great moving the puck. But the Capitals took some penalties right away and the Stars powerplay finally shows up for the first time since the break and gets two quick ones to tie up the game. James Neal throws a shot at the net that finds a way in and from there Dallas takes it to overtime 3-3 having to feel great about getting a point. But Dallas gets the shootout win thanks to Eriksson and Richards, and the Stars have something to build on.

Fistric was in the line-up and looked great and I don’t know how this team can scratch him for any games the rest of the way. He has been their 3rd or 4th best defender all year and they will need him to help this D during this attempt to get into the playoffs.

Dallas is finishing up their road trip tonight with a game in Buffalo. Of course everyone now knows about how great Ryan Miller is, despite him playing that way this year and the past few seasons. Dallas will have to find a way to get tips or traffic around Miller to get some offense in this one. Miller does not get beat a lot by one shot, and re-directs and rebounds will be important. So will be Dallas’s own defense and goalie. Turco is in net again, and if he can play like he did against the best team in the league, Dallas could sneak another one out or at least grab one point to end the 3 game trip on a positive note. Buffalo is not near as dangerous as Washington, and if the Dallas blue-liners and forwards play a sound game in their own end and don’t turn it over moving through the neutral zone then Marty can limit this team to 1 0r 2 goals and the Stars will have a good chance. Sutherby was activated today and looks like he will play, Lehtinen and Grossman are both maybes and I don’t think either will play tonight. Look for Ott to be on the top line again with Richards and Eriksson as it looks like the line played good the other night and Ott helps a lot along the boards, giving more room for his line-mates to move and work in the zone.

The game stars shortly on ch KDFI (27) locally at 6PM, Turco vs Miller. This is where the Stars won the Cup 10 years ago, but have not won since. Let’s hope they end that tonight, GO STARS!!!
