I can not wait for the Sharks to tank in the 2nd round of the playoffs. Something I tweeted late in the game Thursday night, and something I truly hope to see. Not that I am pissed as much by the fact that the San Jose Sharks beat the Stars 3-0, but by who scored for the Sharks and how the 3rd period went. Old defensemen Blake and Boyle both had great games for the Sharks and each scored a powerplay goal in the 2nd period. The Stars on the other hand got some chances and put 27 shots at Nabokov, but could not get anything into the net. Overall it was a half-way there effort by the Stars for most of the game and they took some bad penalties that did not help at all. Turco got the start in net to my surprise and looked good when he had a chance but quite a few times throughout the game he got little help from his teammates.
What really pissed me off was the actions late in the game by one Patrick Marleau in the third period. With about 6 mins to go in the game, and it already 3-0 sharks with the Stars barely putting up a fight, Robidas takes a minor and gives the Sharks a PP chance. During the PP, Steve Ott is out towards the point trying to cover Marleau. Marleau breaks his own stick against the ice, but then decides to just grab onto Ott’s stick. Ott tries to skate from Marleau but can’t as Marleau is just trying to tug Ott’s stick from him. HEY REFS, CALL SOMETHING!!! Ott is yelling at one of the refs, but nothing. Marleau then rushes back to the bench to grab a new stick and just as soon as he does, he skates all the way back towards Otter and takes a run at him from the side. Ott sees him coming and both try to clean the other out. Ottt then drops the gloves and starts trying to swing at Marleau but Marleau takes a quick pop while getting up and then curls up like a coward. The Refs give Otter 2 for roughing, 2 for elbowing, 2 for roughing again and then a 10 min game misconduct. And what does Patrick Marleau, who started it and instigated Otter, get? Just 2 for roughing!!! WHAT A JOKE!!! I was furious not only about Marleau’s actions, but more that because Steve Ott is Steve Ott, he gets everything they could think of called against him. Complete BS! Hopefully when these teams meet again in Dallas next week, someone will make this right. Or at least you know Ott and some of the Dallas players will be pissed off when the Sharks roll into town.
So tonight, Stars are in L.A. to face-off with the Kings. Sorry, but this does not look like a good one already and the puck has not dropped. Dallas has already lost 5-1 and 2-1 in a shootout this month to the Kings, and has had problems with the Kings the last two seasons. It could turn into a high scoring game, especially if Dallas’s D decides to take the night off again. No word yet about who will start in net for the Stars, but I have a feeling it will be Lehtonen back in net again. Dallas has lost 6 of its last 8 in L.A., but hopefully the Stars come with a better effort tonight then they did Thursday night.
Stars at Kings: 9:30CST, on FS-SW(HD) and 1310AM.
