For any of you who have known me at all or read some of the posts up, it is a well known fact that I dislike the Red Wings. With the same dislike that I dislike OU, the New York Yankees, the Philadelphia Eagles, Lady Gaga and a few other things. Okay a lot of things. But I really hate the Red Wings. But in the 2nd round they are playing one of the Dallas Stars division rivals, the San Jose Sharks. So it is hard to pick a team, but it only a few seconds to make up my mind. The Sharks took game one in San Jose, and then last night played a great game. If not for some great goaltending, they might have won by more. But what has so many people were questioning the Sharks ability again in these playoffs because the top line had been MIA in the first round. But “Jumbo Joe” finally showed up yesterday with a goal and an assist. Mini Joe, The Big Pavelski…not sure what name to go with but Joe Pavelski is the Joe that has shown up. A couple more goals to puts him at 9 goals and 5 assists in only 8 games so far. He is carrying the offense at times when the top line is not and may be the reason the biggest reason the Sharks made it through the first round and have a 2-0 series lead so far against the Red Wings. The other Joe is now out shining the one that everyone knows should be performing. But it is not too surprising considering the promise Pavelski has shown and the way he played in the Olympics.
Boston kept their promising playoff run going by winning with a late goal tonight to win 3-2. That puts the Boston Bruins up 2-0 in the series very quickly. The East is so confusing right now. Montreal tied the series with Pittsburgh at 1-1 and lives or dies by Halak. Boston keeps winning games, but is not a team I see going to the Finals. But what happens if Montreal and Boston end up in the East final. Will anyone watch outside of those two areas? Will anyone care, or will they just go ahead and crown the team that comes out of the West the winner?
And finally, the Chicago Blackhawks tied up their series with Vancouver at 1-1 with a good effort tonight in game 2. Chicago got down 2-0 in the game but fought right back and won 4-2. Luongo was pretty good, but not great. Now the series shifts to Vancouver in a best of 5 game series. The game 3 win is big for either team would be great, but game 4 could keep the series close or give one team a big 3-1 lead. I see this series going 6 or 7 games no matter what and despite only getting to watch a little of the series so far, I can not wait to watch more of this series. You can see that this series could get chippy, bitter, and rough with the history from last year’s playoffs and the first part of this series.
Playoff hockey is continuing to give us great action and drama, and it will continue. Thanks for the quick read!
