Stars start the 10-11 season tonight at NJ

It is finally here, the 2010-2011 NHL season kicked off last night with a few games taking place yesterday and more teams dropping the puck for the first time tonight. The Dallas Stars play shortly in New Jersey against the Devils at 6pm central time/7pm eastern. Cue the Jersey Shore jokes and clips…

Tonight should be an entertaining and interesting start to the season for both teams, as the two opponents are starting the season from different perspectives. The Devils have been a constant playoff force out in the Eastern Conference, and signed big-time free agent Ilya Kovalchuk to a huge contract to try and take the next step. Of course they have still have Brodeur in net and have other big name players Parise, Zajac, Elias, and added former Star and Devil Jason Arnott. New Jersey is trying compete and it is known.

For the Stars, it is well known they are transitioning. New main goalie in Kari Lehtonen has baggage, but is a former high 1st round pick and showed during the preseason that he is in probably the best shape he has ever been in. If he can play like he did during the preseason then the Stars might have a great chance to take one of the lower playoff spots out West. Mike Ribeiro and Brenden Morrow look to both be in high spirits and are showing that they both might be able to revert back to their 08 form when the Stars made a solid playoff run. Dallas is rebuilding and transitioning on the fly with young studs Jamie Benn, James Neal, and Loui Eriksson now leading the attack with the teams only big superstar, Brad Richards. It is time for a new Dallas Stars, but they might not be in horrible shape if the defense can grow some and Kari stays healthy.

It’s about game time, here we go!!! My thoughts and comments on the game will be up just after the game. Enjoy and hopefully the Stars can start off the new season with a win!
