Stars win ugly to stay undefeated

Three in row for the first time since January 2009? How about the Stars having the opportunity to win 5 in a row on Monday night? The Stars will have that chance thanks to another win at home Saturday night. The Dallas Stars fell behind 2-0 in the opening minutes, but didn’t give up and forced the St. Louis Blues to overtime before winning the shootout to win the game 3-2. The Stars kept it going mostly because of strong play in the net by Kari Lehtonen. Dallas even tried to give the game up with multiple penalties late in the game, but Lehtonen again played great in the crease late in the game to get it to extra time and for the second time this season the Stars looked excellent in the shootout.

The top line again was the offense for the Stars, as the Richards line had two beautiful goals and provided two of the Stars shootout goals as the team won 3-1 in the shootout phase. Strong play all around and dominating play in the oppositions zone has lead the top line to looking unstoppable at times. Last night the 2nd line did not chip in offensively, but Morrow was physical and smart in the game. Steve Ott has been great in the faceoff circle since taking over the center spot on the third line with Benn being out. Jamie Benn is still out and most likely won’t play Monday night, but when he does (hopefully later this coming week) it will add back some scoring depth to the 3rd line.

So the Stars have won ugly games, games they have controlled, and games when they were not consistent but played great when it was needed. Kari looks like a superb addition so far, and if they can just stop taking so many penalties, then this Stars team will start to really make people notice. Keeping this winning streak going could do that too. We shall see tomorrow night in Tampa Bay puckheads.
