Money On The Board For Your Stars

The concept of putting “Money on the Board” is not new. Most serious hockey or even sports fans know the concept. Often it is when a coach or player will tape or put money on the board in team’s room for motivation. Sometimes it is just to snap a team out of a bad stretch, and sometimes it is get the team going for a big game against a rival. It is a known tradition, and the Maple Leafs even got fined for it getting out that their coach did it earlier this season.

Well last season, and again this season, fans of the Columbus Blue Jackets started putting “Money on the Board” by saying they would put so much money to charities or foundations if the Jackets could muster up a win against the Red Wings. Fans tweeted and said they would give different amounts for the team to have a game winning goal against the evil Red Wings or just said what they would give to see the team win. A noble idea and one of the times the fans raised about $3000 in pledges for a game. Here is a story about their MOTB: Columbus.

So a couple of weeks ago Kate Kuwitzky (Twitter.com/KeepBradInBigD) started talking about the idea for a Dallas Stars MOTB movement on Jan. 27th, and right away we started talking about spreading the word and getting something going. I said I would use BlackoutDallas to help spread the word and gain support and help how I could. She contacted the Dallas Stars Foundation and Lora Farris to see if they would join in and we could get something going, and they are on board with MOTB. Starting today and going until game time Friday, we are going to try to raise as much as we can for the foundation in pledges and donations for the Stars game this coming Friday (Feb. 11th) against the Chicago Blackhawks. It will be a big home game for the boys in black as the defending champs come to town, and former goalie Marty Turco will be back in town and possibly playing.

Here are some details for you guys: We are going to be using the hashtag #STARSMOTB on Twitter to help get the word out and keep track. This allows us to spread the word and get it out, but also the hashtag will allow us to see how much is raised by checking the hashtag and being able to see all tweets using the tag. All should be made by gametime Friday! If you don’t have twitter, then email me at BlackoutDallas@Aol.com or contact the Stars Foundation and just let them know you want to donate and it is part of the Stars MOTB campaign. All of the “MOTB” will benefit the Stars Foundation, which is a great foundation that works with children locally, and after we win all pledged donations should be sent to them at:

Dallas Stars Foundation

2601 Avenue of the Stars, Frisco, TX 75034

So there you go everyone. Over the next day or two, jump on board! Throw the tag #STARSMOTB on it and say whatever you want to encourage the team or other fans and how much you will give. Anything helps guys, really! You can give a couple of dollars for a Stars beat down on the Blackhawks or you can give as much as you feel led. It all goes to just encourage our team, raise money for kids, and show support for the team. I mean heck, if you don’t know if you can donate, just help get the word out. Show them to this post, tell people about it, and spread the word on Twitter and Facebook. I know attendance has been down this year, but I really think there is no reason with the help of  Stars fans (both serious and casual) and getting the word out this week that we can raise a good amount to put Money on the Board for a Stars win and a great foundation! I would like nothing more then to see this thing take off and the Stars deliver against Chicago.
