Leading the Pac – The Closest Division in Hockey

facebooktwitterreddit

By comparison the Northwest Division is separated by 39 points; our Pacific Division is separated from first to last by 7 points. No other division in the NHL is as close as ours and at the time of writing I can see all of the Pacific teams making a reasonable run to the playoffs, even the last place team, the Kings, have a great opportunity if they can pick up some steam.

After last evening, (best game of the season for our Stars) the Stars have regained solo control of the Pacific. Dallas sits at 68 points followed by the San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks tied at 66 points a piece. The Phoenix Coyotes are close behind with 65 points and the Los Angeles Kings are in the basement of the division with 61.

 NHL Division Standings

Hopefully last night was a turning point in the season; our boys came back from a 3 goal deficit and controlled the rest of the game to win the shootout against Chicago. I look for the division to really start to separate as teams decide where they stand at the trade deadline but by no means is Dallas’ division lead safe.

Check back on Thursday 02-17 and I’ll breakdown the division in more detail.
