Preview and Smack-talking: Blue Jackets at Stars

What is a Sunday afternoon after football season good for? Well it is good for some NHL hockey against a couple of western teams fighting for important points. The Dallas Stars host the Columbus Blue Jackets for some midday hockey today down at the AAC. Dallas of course ended their losing streak by coming from behind Friday night after being down 3-0 to win at home against the Blackhawks. The crowd got into the game as the boys did and it ended up feeling like a playoff game in Big D. Now the Stars need to put some solid games together and pick up more points today against another team fighting for positioning in the west.

Columbus comes in having won 4 out of 5, and playing some decent hockey. But playing early is often rough on the players and can really throw a game up in the air. Both teams could come out slow and/or dragging, and look to pick up the play and set a tempo. Mary O’Malley from the Fansided CBJ’s blog ‘Fire That Cannon’ agrees with me. These two teams do have a history of playing rough against each other in the last couple years and I do not see it changing this afternoon.

Now Mary emailed me this weekend to talk about the game and start a little trash talking, and didn’t like the fact that I said I hate Rick Nash. Sorry but I do. I know the guy is talented and I think he is an excellent player, but I don’t like him. Maybe it is because I am a Stars and Blackhawks fan, and both teams are not friendly with the Blue Bugs. It is okay, Stars fans know Brad Richards is a whole level above Nash and with the tear he has been on basically all season I wouldn’t be shocked if he pockets a couple more points this afternoon. So we have a little friendly wager involving our blogs, and I know my Stars will pull it out for me. And I look forward to rubbing it in a bit. (Check Mary’s preview and trash talking here)

FYI, so far it looks like the Stars “Money on the Board” campaign helped raise about $500 for the Stars Foundation. That is awesome for it being the first time and it basically being a grassroots movement. More on the MOTB later today guys.
