At the beginning of the season, no one picked the Dallas Stars to win it all, in fact most did not pick them to make the playoffs. After the solid start to the season and holding the 3rd place spot in the Western Conference for most of it the Stars are now on the downward decline we’ve come to expect.
Last night we saw our Dallas Stars in full slump mode, while they played hard and kept the game close they just weren’t able to beat the Vancouver Canucks. The Stars lost 5-2, but were able to keep it 3 to 2 up until the last 5 minutes of the 3rd period. James Neal scored his first goal since January 21st, hopefully this will get his confidence back and he can start taking the shot instead of passing one too many times. The Stars finish the season series 0-4 against the Canucks and are in a hurry to get out of Canada after this painful road trip.
It’s not all doom and gloom for this team, several key players to the success so far this season have been out with various injuries. Brad Richards most recently is out with “concussion-like symptoms”, but before that two anchors of this years club Jamie Benn and Adam Burish have been injured as well. The sooner we can get these pieces back the sooner I believe we get back to the Stars we loved in January.
A friend always likes to remind me that there is lot’s of hockey left when his Red Wings are down by a goal or two and I think that stands as a reminder that we aren’t done. There is a little less than 2 months of hockey left and more than enough time for the Stars to get back on track. Not to mention…barring a playoff match-up we won’t have to watch our Stars manhandled by the Canucks again. Glass half-full right?
