Stars trade Neal

Per Bob McKenzie and now the Dallas Stars, the team has traded James Neal to the Pittsbrugh Penguins. I know what you are thinking. Okay, the Pens needed offense and we probably go some D or prospects back. Not really. The Stars have moved James Neal and Matt Niskanen to Pittsburgh for defenseman Alex Goligoski…and that’s it.

The Stars got a D-man here. But what did they get? Goligoski is a puck moving blueliner and offensive guy, but he is not a great upgrade in his own defensive end. He has been a 30-35 point guy for the offensively talent Penguins and is a powerplay asset, but in the overall depth chart he is only the Stars #4 or maybe #3 defender.
