We interrupt your regularly scheduled slump panic to bring you a short positive story about a newer piece of the Dallas Stars coaching Staff.

If we ignore the entire month of February, this has been a successful season for the Dallas Stars, a critical part to this success is the change in attitude throughout the organization. This started last season with the hiring of Marc Crawford and continued when associate coach Willie Desjardins was brought to the organization. Desjardins, who turned 54 this month began coaching in 1985, most recently he was the coach of the Medicine Hat Tigers.

With the Tigers Willie led them to their first playoff appearance in five years during the 02-03 season, he also brought the Tigers their 4th WHL championship in 2003–2004. He enjoyed great popularity as the Medicine Hat coach as evidenced by the Facebook group Willie Desjardins is the Best Coach in Canada, a group with over 150 members. Desjardins was also the coach of the Canadian World Juniors team in 2009 and 2010 and has been in multiple coaching and playoff situations.

Willie has also endeared himself to many Canadians with his charitable endeavors, helping earn money for the Canadian Cancer Society.

From the Canadian Cancer Society- In the fall of 2009, the Medicine Hat Tigers and head coach Willie Desjardins ran a very successful Dusters for Dollars event raising over $12,000 in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.  This fall we sought out a few good men who were willing to join the fight against men’s cancers and shave their mustaches off in support of cancer research.

Desjardins works with the penalty kill and is responsible for a lot of the preparation for opposing teams. Marc Crawford has also said that he enjoys having a former head coach at his side because he understands and thinks like a head coach which is helpful in situations. The associate coach has had a hand in many aspects of the Stars game and is a real players coach, we look forward to hearing more from him and hope his career success can translate to our Dallas Stars.
