Tonight at 8pm Pacific Division rivals will clash again. Dallas will take on the Phoenix Coyotes for the 5th of 6th times tonight in Arizona.
A big 4-point game for both teams in the most competitive division in the league within a conference where no play-off spot is safe. Even the Canucks could see their president’s trophy slip away with an inopprotuned slump.
The Stars could soar briefly up to 5th place with a regulation win or see themselves fall below the playoff threshold with a loss.
The good news is the Stars are healthier while Phoenix could see their team go through growing pains after a trade that sees two depth players move out while an injured Klesla comes in to boost their roster. I guess you can’t call it growing pains when you haven’t really grown, but I think you could see the Coyotes sag briefly and fall to 7th or 8th in the next week or two while a team or two above them settles in a few wins.
The playoff race is officially on now that the trade deadline has come and gone, so these games are going to start feeling different and if the importance placed on getting 2 points wasn’t already at the maximum premium then they are officially at that mark. The Stars need this win to stay solidly in the running for the month of March. Every Divisional game is going to be the most important game of the month. They need to use these 4 point games to put distance between themselves and teams like the Ducks, Coyotes and Kings.
9 of the 14 games they will play in the month of March will be against divisional foes and they need a hot start tonight in Phoenix.
