Playoff Hopes Dead in the Waters of San Jose

It’s hard to say this, but when I muse for words this is the only thought that I can muster.

For all intents and purposes my brain has fallen back, defeated. The likelyhood of the Stars making the playoffs after a gruesome 6-0 defeat at the hands of the Sharks is improbable at best. It isn’t that they are out mathematically. They are still very much in the hunt for 8th or even 7th place in the West. However, after seeing how uninspired the play was from top end players last night (every player save the 4th line, Tom Wandell and Mark Fistric and glimpses of Jamie Benn) I can’t imagine they are going to do much for the remainder of the season.

The rest of the team seemed to be playing like they were still that team who was in first in their division coasting through come from behind wins. They aren’t that team anymore and as commendable as the idea of ignoring the rest of the league is, it isn’t something they can afford to do anymore.

The season is all but over. Their window is closed and unless they win every game for the rest of the season, the odds of ending this playoff drought at 2 years is unlikely. Sorry Stars fans, I hope they prove me wrong, but it isn’t looking good.
