With the chance of the playoffs still alive for the Dallas Stars, tonight’s home finale against the Colorado Avalanche is as huge of a home game that the Stars have played all season. The two teams play a home-and-home pair of games with the Stars playoff dreams hanging in the air. The last two nights they have received almost zero help from other teams in the West, and now the chances are very slim. But all the Stars can really do is win their final three games and do as much as they can to give themselves a chance.
Tonight’s home game marks the Stars final home match of the season, and the Stars are 21-11-8 so far at home this season. The offense has been lacking a bit recently, but the Stars might have a great chance to rack up some goals of over the next two nights. Colorado is putting Brian Elliott in the crease tonight and he has been giving up almost four goals a game since coming over at the trade deadline. Plus the Avs are 4-23-2 since the All-star break and have a lot of injuries right now. So the Stars get two games against a wounded, pitiful, and already basement-dwelling team? Sounds great to me and I bet it looks good for the Stars too. But they can not just skate around and give a partial effort, they can not afford too. In their last game against the Blue Jackets the boys in black got the win, but really won a 1-0 game against another crappy team. Hopefully they get fired up and come out with some fire. A couple of early goals against a team like this could end the game early if the Stars are up 2-0 or 3-0 after the second period. Kari Lehtonen will again man the crease for Dallas after picking up his third shutout of the season on Tuesday night.
Adam Burish is a game-time decision for the Stars tonight after missing the 11 games with a leg injury. Still currently no news past that. Grossman and Sutherby both remain out and if they play this weekend at all is still up in the air.
