Game Update: The Dallas Stars head into the most important period of their season tied with the Minnesota Wild at 3-3. After going into the 2nd period with a 2-1 lead, Dallas let the game and lead slip away from them. The Wild scored on their only powerplay of the game so far and then Colton Gillies gave them a 3-2 lead with another goal right in front of Kari Lehtonen. The Stars just came out flat and sloppy in the second period. Passes being bobbled, turning over the puck, losing 1-0n-1 battles, and just being outplayed.
Yet then the Wild helped open the door right back up for the Stars late in the period. Gillies plows his way towards the Stars net at one point and shoves Jeff Woywitka straight into Lehtonen. After a few seconds down and plenty of fans starting to panic, Kari was back up and the Stars were headed onto the powerplay. Then right away the Wild clear the puck into the stands and give the Stars a 5-on-3 PP. Almost right away the Stars set up and Alex Goligoski drilled a cannon shot off the post and in. The Stars could not score on the rest of their PP and the two teams now head to the third period knotted up at 3-3.
This third period literally decides everything. The Stars need to win in regulation or overtime to make the playoffs and now have everything relying on their play in this period. Kari Lehtonen will need to stand tall for the boys and hopefully he is fine after being run-over in the 2nd. No bad penalties, no more playing half of a period, no more waiting. Now is the time to give everything and go at it with anything they have left and more. The Wild attacked back in the 2nd and now the Stars need to respond and win this game.
