Dallas Stars Rumor Mill: 7/29/2011

Disclaimer:  Please note that all of the information found in this post are unconfirmed rumors from the sources of various sites and other news outlets.  The truth behind these rumors are as strong as these sources but still remain to be just that – only rumors.  Feel free to blaim all of this on Eklund and his delinquents.

Disclaimer #2: Sarcasm noted with red text.

We have some strange developments this week in world of rumors and theorycrafting for the Dallas Stars.  The common thread in all of our reporting for the past month or so has been how locked in the current roster seems to be.  With a distinct lack of two-way contracts for players like Dowell and Pardy, without risking waiver problems, we need to trade to make room for pretty much anyone.

That said, it doesn’t stop rumors from popping up and here are a few that are gaining some ground.  Just to set up the complete lack of meat behind these potatos; Karlis Skrastins is listed to be on the radar of both Dallas and Minnesota despite his contract being signed with the KHL.

Brent Sopel

Because, Dallas needs another bottom 2 defensemen in their line-up; the Stars are the newest team running on the Sopel rumor mill along with the Wild and the Canadiens.

Marty Turco

The Turco rumor has heated up a bit with some more ground being gained on hehalf of the Dallas Stars!  I think we all agree that letting Turco go was the biggest mistake Joe has made.  Back in reality; the Panthers are apparently the front runner in the Turco sweepstakes.  I love the guy and I think he will be one of the best commentators/analysts hockey TV has ever seen, but I would rather see Belfour back on the team than Turco at this point.  I apologize for the harshness.

Martin Gerber

While it seems that Gerber is destined to re-sign with the Oilers; the Stars remain in the rumor talks for this 36 year old goaltender.  Raycroft still has a year on his contract, so I’m not sure where Gerber would have fit in.  I personally would keep Raycroft over Gerber considering how little he has played in the NHL over the last 10 years.

Kyle Wellwood

While absent from the whisperings of the rumor world, Kyle Welwood is still on the market and last I heard the Stars were still in the group looking to sign him.

That’s all of the official nonsense I have for you for now.  I’ll keep an eye on this foolish stuff moving forward and keep you all up to date.
