Tonight the Dallas Stars host their final preseason game of the year, finishing up the home-home series with the Florida Panthers that started Tuesday night in the sunshine state. The Stars have a nice 4-1 record in the preseason, and at this point will finish with a winning record. After hosting the Panthers tonight, the team flies out to play their final road preseason game against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.
These two teams had an interesting meeting Tuesday night. The Stars had many early chances as Florida took a few early penalties, but the Panthers took a 1-0 lead into the 2nd. Dallas came out and got goals from Tomas Vincour (I’m telling you he should stay up with the NHL team), Loui Eriksson, and a short-handed tally by Toby Peterson. So a 3-1 lead heading into the third with the team exploiting a young goalie on the other end. Should be simple right? Well the Stars and Panthers kept the penalties coming, as the game got chippy and rough very quickly in the 3rd. The Panthers struck twice on an extended powerplay, and next thing you know the game is headed to OT. But have no fear, because Mike Ribeiro and Michael Ryder already look to be synced in to each other, and Ryder netted the game winner for the Stars.
Tonight in the AAC we could see more of the same. The rosters are starting to take shape as we get close to the puck drop for the regular season, but both teams have young players trying to make a mark here to stay in the NHL or make people at least remember their name. Mark Stepneski over at Andrew’s Stars Page has what looks like the starting lineups right here. Keep an eye on that Ott-Sceviour-Vincour line as both Sceviour and Vincour are looking to either steal a roster spot or become the first guy called up. You can scout the enemy over at TheRatTrick.com (One of Fansided’s best NHL pages), and although I will be keeping up with the game via phone and texts from ESPN and people in building, you can always follow me at Twitter.com/BlackoutDallas or follow Frank on the Panthers side at Twitter.com/TheRatTrick for tweets and updates from tonight.
