Stars To Start The Season With Injuries

It did not even take a regular season game for the injury “bug” to already hit the Dallas Stars this season. Captain Brenden Morrow  played in the Alumni Classic this last weekend and said he is healthy, but the Stars injuries worries are now more wide spread then the captain. Both Jamie Benn and Adam Burish have been dealing with groin “issues” (don’t ask, don’t tell huh?), and the status of both for the opening game has changed. Jamie Benn is good to go it appears, but Burish has still not skated this week and will most likely miss at least the opener Friday.

But the Stars and their fans have known about this for about a week now. Nothing new other then the update on Burish. Well then this morning the Stars made another announcement. Top four defenseman Nicklas Grossman and new addition (and probable 6th dman) Adam Pardy are both injured. Grossman suffered a groin injury in practice and is status for this weekend is unknown. Pardy apparently has a rib injury that he got in the final preseason game and will be out this weekend. Interesting enough, Pardy played in the Alumni Classic as well but apparently the non-contact game was fine but it is bad enough that he will miss the season opener.

With those two out on defense, it opens up the door for Mark Fistric and youngster Philip Larsen. Fistric should have already been the 6th Dman over Pardy in my opinion, but the coaching staff and management seem to like Pardy and keep misusing Fistric in my opinion. Larsen has been the Stars best Dman prospect the last two seasons and after a nice preseason stayed on the roster finally, and now we know why. Looks like both with be in the line-up Friday night. A nice thing for Larsen, a good young player that I got the pleasure of meeting a couple of years ago. He is smart, a puck-mover, and could be a future PP point-man.

Hopefully all of these guys can clear things up quickly, because the season doesn’t start off slowly. Two games this weekend with a probably Cup contender in the Chicago Blackhawks and then they play eight straight games against western foes and rivals.
