The season for the Dallas Stars and Columbus Blue Jackets will have it’s ups and downs. While they are both unhappy with their play so far, their results are different on the ice. The Stars are off to a 3-1-0 start while the Blue Jackets are off to a 0-3-1. This is the first of four meetings between the Blue Jackets and the Stars, as they then play again on Tuesday in Columbus.
Keys to winning the game against the Blue Jackets: The top line of Brenden Morrow-Mike Ribeiro-Michael Ryder needs to start producing and take pressure off the Loui Eriksson-Jamie Benn-Steve Ott line. Also Kari Lehtonen needs to stay on top of his game like he has been for all three of the Stars wins so far. Until the defense is more reliable and consistent, he might be called upon nightly to anchor the team.
The Columbus Blue Jackets have injuries to report as forwards Kristian Huselius (Pectoral Surgery) and Jared Boll (Broken Right Thumb), along with Goaltender Mark Dekonich (sprained ankle) are out. The Dallas Stars are healthy as Adam Pardy has come off IR after missing 4 games. Philip Larsen was sent back to the Texas Stars, the AHL team of the Dallas Stars, and should see plenty of ice time there. Newly acquired forward Eric Nystrom, whom came from the Minnesota Wild, might be making his debut as a Dallas Stars at the American Airlines Center.
The puck drops at 7 pm CST as this game between the Dallas Stars and the Columbus Blue Jackets should be a tough one, as the Blue Jackets are a hungry team wanting to win their first game of the season but the Dallas Stars will try to extend that losing streak. They are looking for their third win in a row. Expect some physical play as although there is not a big rivalry here, these games often get very physical.
