The month of November for the Dallas Stars (11-8-0) has been brutal as they are currently on a 5 game losing streak. Goals are not coming and they are not playing like the team that we all witnessed earlier in the year. They are coming off a 4-1 defeat against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday, and are going to have to play a better a game against the young Edmonton Oilers (10-7-2), who are coming off an impressive 9-2 win against the Chicago Blackhawks. During their recent history with one another, the Stars haven’t lost a game in regulation against the Oilers at the American Airlines Center since December 8, 2006 and went 3-1 against the Oilers last season.
Kari Lehtonen will start in net for the Stars after getting Saturday night off while Nikolai Khabibulin will start in net for the Oilers. Both teams have injuries to report as the Stars are still without Alex Goligoski (broken thumb) and Adam Burish (broken hand). The Oilers are going to be without Darcy Hordichuk (knee), Ryan Whitney (knee), Cam Barker (ankle), Corey Potter (ankle) and Andy Sutton(Groin).
This will be also Sheldon Souray’s first game against his former team, the Edmonton Oilers. So look for Souray to have a little bit of extra pep for the game tonight. Interestingly enough, he did not want to talk with any Edmonton media today after practice and turned them all down. Look for the Dallas Stars to come out strong and ready to end this losing streak as they finally started to show some emotion and energy late in the Sharks game, but by then it was too late. Reports are that Tomas Vincour and Philip Larsen will be in the lineup tonight to give the team a little more youth and speed against a young hungry team in the Oilers. Both guys will be playing for the first time this season and it should be interesting to see where Glen Gulutzan plays them tonight and if he juggles the lines a little. If Dallas hopes to turn things around, they need to find a way to do it on special teams. They are 1-9 on the powerplay during the losing streak and have allowed 6 powerplay goals against in 23 kills during the five games.
The puck drops at 730 pm (CST) at the American Airlines as as this will be the first meeting between the Oilers and the Stars. You can catch the game on tv with FOX Sports Southwest or radio side with Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket. The Stars will also have new owner Tom Gaglardi drop the puck tonight on the game. The official press conference to announce him as the new owner was held earlier today.
