The Dallas Stars return to the ice tonight to start the second part of their road trip, starting their trip through the New York/New Jersey are with a road game against the New York Rangers. The game immediately has many story lines. The Stars will be playing against Brad Richards for the first time since he left via free agency, Richard Bachman is getting the nod in the crease again after his great start on Saturday, and don’t forget their is always a chance for the Stars to see Sean Avery if he even plays. Well that is if he can even crack the lineup. The Rangers will be waiting in New York for the Stars, and are burning up recently. New York has won seven of its last nine.
Mark Fistric will be serving the third game of his suspension and will be eligible to return to the lineup after tonight. Adam Burish is apparently starting to get close, but he will still be out this week. For the Rangers Marc Staal (concussion), winger Wojtek Wolski (sports hernia), Mike Rupp (knee) and Dman Kurt Sauer (concussion) are out.
Besides going 7-1-1 in their last nine, the Rangers are also 14-3-1 on their recent streak and have to be considered one of the best teams in the league right now. Besides adding the Richards, New York is really down a few guys right now. But they are offensively averaging three goals a game while Henrik Lundqvist continues to be one of the best netminders in the league. The Rangers started slow on special teams, but both sides are clicking right now. Add that to being the 5th best team in the league during 5-on-5 play, and the Stars might be in for a rough night. But Bachman is the wild card, and if he can give Dallas another great start then I think the Stars might be able to take away at least a point. Last year’s only meeting ended in the Rangers winning it 3-2 in OT. Puck drops at 6pm tonight. For those looking to watch the game, the official watching party starts Frankie’s in Uptown at 6pm and Burish will be there along with the Stars Ice Girls. Drop on by for some fun and giveaways.
