The Dallas Stars have just drafted, stepping up to the podium to select 13th overall in the first round of the 2012 NHL Draft. With the pick the Stars have selected Radek Faksa. After a string of defensemen were taken in the top 10 picks, quite a few forwards fell a few spots. Faksa was ranked by many scouts in the 7th-12th area, and before tonight seemed like an extreme long-shot that he would be there at 13th.
Filip Forsberg was considered one of the true elite talents in the draft, and almost fell to the Stars before being drafted by the Washington Capitals at 11th. With the string of blueliners happening, the Stars had a situation at 13th where multiple players that look good fell to them. But the team selected Faksa over Zemgus Girgensons and Cody Ceci, exciting the fanbase as many of the team’s fans on twitter and facebook celebrated when the pick was announced.
