Cutthroats Cut The Americans, 2-1

Allen, Texas—The Allen Americans were looking to win their second game in a row tonight, but they fell to the Denver Cutthroats 2-1.  Jarret Lukin was the lone goal scorer for the Americans while AJ Gale and Brad Smyth scored for the Cutthroats.

Steve Silverthorn made the start in goal for the Americans; it was his twelfth start of the season as Aaron Dell was taking a rest and he saved 25 out of the  27 shots he faced. At the other end of the ice, Kieran Millan of the Cutthroats stopped 31 out of 32 shots he faced

1st period

Denver Cutthroats went up 1-0 after a goal by AJ Gale. The 12 goal of the season for Gale went glove side on Silverthorn.

Silverthorn came up big as Troy Schwab had a chance to make it 2-0. With 15:53 left in the third period, Ryley Grantham and Mike Towns dropped the mitts as Towns got the better of the fight.

Americans went 0 for 1 while Denver went 0 for 0 on the power play. Cutthroats had a 9-4 edge in shots.

2nd period

The Americans looked sluggish in the beginning of the period as they tried to tie the game up, but Millan was on top of his game. Silverthorn kept them in the game when the Cutthroats put the pressure on.

Denver scored on the aftermath of a 2-on-1 breakaway with Brian McMillin and Jason Deitsch making beautiful passes to one another.  Silverthorn made the original stop but Brad Smyth scored his 12th on a rebound making it 2-0 Cutthroats.

Americans went 0 for 3 while Denver went 0 for 4 on the power play. Cutthroats had an 11-8 shot advantage in the 2nd period

3rd period

The Americans came out fired up in the final period and it showed as they outshot the Cutthroats 11-3. The hard work paid off as Jarret Lukin put the puck in the net from a reverse angle after the power play had expired EARLY in the third period; it was Lukin’s 7th goal of the season. As the Americans continued to put pressure on Millan during the rest of the period, they could not tie the game up before the final buzzer sound.

Before the game, Aaron Dell was honored a plaque for his Warrior Goalie of the Month by Ed Belfour, who is a minority owner of the Allen Americans.
