Texas Stars Recap

The Texas Stars, the AHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars, who are currently locked out, had a rough start to the season. But lately they have been on a tear in December and the past three games, they are 2-1-0 over the weekend. Through today, they are sitting six in the western conference and south division. Here is a small game recap of the three games on December 5th through December 8:

On December 5, the Texas Stars finished up their road trip with a 2-1 OT victory over the Admirals. The Stars got the best goaltending from Cristopher Nilstrop who stopped 24 out of the 25 shots he faced. Cody Eakins and Colton Scevior who scored the game winner were the goal scorers for the Stars while Austin Watson scored the lone goal for the Admirals.

After finishing off the Admirals, the Stars had two back to back games against the Houston Aeros and Peoria Rivermen. On Friday night, they faced the Houston Aeros in which they lost 2-1 in OT. Brendon Dillon’s goal tied the game at 1-1 in the third period but Aeros’ forward Jason Zucker won the game in OT with 3:07 to win the game. Nilstrop was in net for the Stars as he stopped 35 out of 36 shots he faced. Then on Saturday, they came back as they won 4-1 against the Rivermen. The Stars got their goal production from Reilly Smith who had two goals and Matt Fraser who also scored two goals. Nilstorp, who overcame a spear by Peoria’s Anthony Peluso late in the second period, stopped 23 of 24 shots for Texas.

The Texas Stars have a few days off before a back to back set with the Abbotsford Heat at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre. Today they practiced to get ready for their games and Dallas Stars forward Derek Roy, who is currently rehabbing off season shoulder surgery, is expecting to get intense workouts and to be ready if there is to be an NHL season.

-Dallas Stars Prospect Austin Smith extends his point streak to nine games with two goals in Idaho on Sunday as Ontario edges Idaho in OT, 5-4. He has 20 points (14 goals, 6 assists) in 15 games with the Steelheads this season
