Last week, the Allen Americans went on a road trip to Arizona and then onto Denver. They went on and took 6 points on the road. Today they were at home practicing at the Allen Community Ice Rink as they get ready for the upcoming series against the Missouri Mavericks in Kansas and then coming home to play against the Wichita Thunder. The Americans were practicing and improving on their power play as Brett Skinner has been out with a lower body injury.
But the better news for the Allen Americans is that Scotty Howes, who has missed the last few games with an injury, is ready to play with his team. I sat down with head coach of the Allen Americans, Steve Martinson about the upcoming games. Here are his thoughts about the team improvements, the injury update on Scotty Howes and also about rookie goaltender Aaron Dell getting the CHL goalie of the week honors:
Improvements and what they are working on during their series with the Mavericks and Thunder
“We are working on power play a little bit differently without Brett Skinner so we are working and focus a little more on that this week. You know it’s a lot of the same things and we look at what at maybe what we did wrong in the game. Sometimes it’s the defensive part, maybe it’s the cycling, and you know, neutral zone play, pucks to the net. It’s funnier your team goes through different cycles of what they are doing wrong and I thought the last game we did, we got a lot of shots and control the corners and our defensive zone. They were at good speed and our goaltending is excellent.”
Goaltender Aaron Dell getting the CHL goalie of the week honors:
“He’s been playing great since the get go. He’s been very solid and he is showing why an all-American. I think it’s his sophomore year, a junior at college and he’s an outstanding goalie.”
About the injury to Scotty Howes and if he would be ready for the upcoming trip:
“Yep, he’s ready to play.”
