Twin Power and Boots: Bootland, Ludwig Twins Lead Americans over Brahmas 4-1

The Allen Americans were looking for a weekend sweep with the Fort Worth Brahmas, already dominating the game yesterday with a 5-4 win. They got the sweep with a 4-1 victory with a Darryl Bootland Hat trick along with Trevor Ludwig who also had 2 assists and his twin, Tyler Ludwig who had 4 assists.

The Americans came out strong, scoring two goals with 7 minutes apart from one another of the game, to take an early lead with two goals by Darryl Bootland.

Bootland scored 2:44 into the game with his 13th goal of the season as he tipped it on the power play from a slap shot by Tyler Ludwig over the glove side of Kristofer Westblom. Then he scored his second goal in the game at the 9:22 mark in the 1st period on the power play as he tipped another Tyler Ludwig’s shot pass Westblom. The Americans almost went up with a great chance by Anthony Maiani from a great pass by Jason Dietsch.

Brahmas cut the Americans lead by one goal at the 2:54 mark in the 2nd period. John Snowden was wide open as he wrist shot it passed Dell for his 2nd goal of the season. While the Americans were on the penalty kill, Brahmas tried to get the score even when Sly Nutkevich had a chance but Dell was too quick. Then Darryl Bootland scored the natural hat trick on the power play with 12 minutes left in the 2nd period as he was in front of the net as he deflected another Ludwig shot.

Snowden and Klempa of the Brahmas both had good quality scoring chances but Aaron Dell stoned him with both the glove and pad saves. As the Brahmas took yet another penalty, the Americans made them pay as Trevor Ludwig scored his 5th goal of the season from the slot passed Westblom’s glove in the 3rd period.

A scary moment happened when Bootland was motionless on the ice after a big hit from Erik Spady and he got up on his own power as he went to the locker room. Back on the ice, leading scorer for the Americans, Scotty Howes’ fought with Klempa before Howes got kicked out of the game for good.

The Americans had a 29-24 shot advantage over the Brahmas and were 4 for 8 on the power play. Aaron Dell, who was honored before the game for the goalie of the month, stopped 23 out of the 24 shots he faced.

The Americans’ next game is on New Year’s Eve when they face the Quad City Mallards at 7:05 pm.
