Allen Americans Defeated The Tulsa Oilers, 6-2

Allen, Texas—The Allen Americans, who came off a 4-0 shutout win against the Quad City Mallards on New Year’s Eve, were facing off against the Tulsa Oilers, who lost to the Missouri Mavericks, 1-0. They did so as they won their 22nd game of the season, 6-2 with goals by Brett Skinner (twice), Jamie Schaasfma (twice), Drew Daniels and Jason Deitsch. Steve Silverthorn who started in net, stopped 35 out of the 37 shots he faced while Shane Madolora stopped 35 out of the 40 shots he faced.

The Americans came out in the first period of play with energy and grit as Ryley Grantham and Daniel Amesbury drop the mitts to get the crowd started. Ryley won the battle as he took down Amesbury. Steve Silverthorn made a pass but Garrett Clarke blocked the shot that was coming as Silverthorn was out of the net.

The Tulsa Oilers went on the board first as they scored on the power play at the 17:30. It was deflected in by Ben Gordon as Silverthorn could not see the shot. That was his 18th goal of the season. Garrett Clarke gave the puck away to Ryan Menei as he had a breakaway chance but the puck went off the post as the score stayed 1-0.

Americans tied the game up at 1-1 on the power play with from a slap shot by Brett Skinner, who is back after missing the last few games with an upper body injury and Madolora, who started in net for the Oilers, couldn’t see the shot. That was his 6th goal of the season. Americans then went up 2-1 at the 1:45 mark in the first period from a beautiful pass by Ryley Grantham who set up Jamie Schaafsma FOR his 10th goal of the season.

At the 17:21 mark, Kip Brennan and Daniel Amesbury dropped the mitts and Brennan won the fight. That was also Amesbury’s second fight of the game. Americans went up 3-1 at the 16:03 mark in the 2nd period from a wrap-around goal by Drew Daniels, who scored his 1st goal of the season and his first with the Americans.

Americans then take a 4-1 lead at the 2:07 as Brett Skinner scored his 2nd goal and 7th goal of the season as Madolora didn’t see the puck with Darryl Bootland in front of the net.

At the 19:41 mark in the third period, both Darryl Bootland and Gio Flamminio fought as Bootland got the better of the fight. Another fight ignited at the 19:01 mark as Jarret Lukin and Sean Ericksson fought as Ericksson didn’t like Lukin being in front of the net aggravating Madolora.

While shorthanded and killing a penalty with both Bootland and Ludwig in the box, Jason Deitsch, who played his 500th career game  scored his 4th goal of the season on a breakaway as Madolora, didn’t have a chance at the 7:42 mark.

Then after the Oilers goal was waved off by the referees, Drew Fischer slapped shot it passed Silverthorn’s gloved and scored his 4th goal of the season at the 10:00 mark as the Americans still lead 5-2. At the 6:15 mark of the 3rd period, Americans took a 6-2 lead with Jamie Schaasfma scoring his second goal and 11th of the season from beautiful pass by Jason Deitsch, who already scored.

The next game for the Allen Americans is tomorrow night as they face the Rapid City Rush at the Allen Event Center.
