About the Stars
The Dallas Stars are heading into the season opener against the Phoenix Coyotes with a new look to their team. They traded fan favorite Steve Ott to the Buffalo Sabres for center Derek Roy and traded Mike Ribeiro to the Washington Capitals for Cody Eakin. Then over the summer they signed Jaromir Jagr and former Coyotes Center Ray Whitney to help out the younger kids. As we all know now, Jamie Benn will not play in tomorrow’s game due to not being signed now so look for Michael Ryder and Loui Eriksson to step it up until Benn gets back into the lineup.
Today, the Stars sent down goaltender Richard Bachman and defenseman Jamie Oleksiak back to Texas Stars of the AHL which means that Cristopher Nihlstorp will be backing up Kari Lehtonen, who is starting in net for the Dallas Stars.
Injuries: Aaron Rome (groin) is questionable
About the Coyotes
Last season, the Phoenix Coyotes went all the way to the Western Conference Finals before losing to the Stanley Cup Champions, LA Kings. The core of the Coyotes roster is still intact but there are some changes to the roster. Gone are Adrian Aucoin, Taylor Pyatt, Gilbert Brule, and Ray Whitney, who signed with the Dallas Stars over the summer.
Yesterday, Phoenix Coyotes acquired center Matthew Lombardi from the Toronto Maple Leafs for a conditional draft pick. Lombardi knows the Coyotes system very well so it was a good trade for them as he will bring the speed to the lineup. Mike Smith will start in net for the Phoenix Coyotes.
Injuries: Raffi Torres (suspension) is out.
