Allen, Texas– The Allen Americans came home to the Allen Event Center to face the same Arizona Sundogs they defeated on Saturday night, 2-1. They went into the game with no energy and no puck control as they lost 3-2 against the Arizona Sundogs. The Americans got goals from Anthony Maiani and Tyler Ludwig while the Sundogs got goals from Kevin Petovello and Ron Myers (2 goals). Steve Silverthorn stopped 29 out of the 32 shots he faced. David Brown stopped 20 out of the 22 shots he faced.
The Americans were lacking energy and it showed as the Arizona Sundogs took the lead from a rebound in front of the net by Kevin Petovello who scored his 5th goal of the season at the 4:26 mark that went passed Steve Silverthorn’s blocker side. Then at the 7:35 mark, the Sundogs lead went from one goal to two goals from a deflected goal by Ron Myers, who scored his 6th goal of the season as Silverthorn could not see the shot.
Kip Brennan tried to get energy into the fans as he dropped the mitts with Adam Smyth at the 17:39 mark in the first period as Smyth took down Brennan. On the power play, the Americans cut the lead in half as Tyler Ludwig scored his 4th goal of the season as he blasted the puck from a pass by Brett Skinner at the 19:34 mark as David Brown couldn’t see the shot.
The Americans tried to make it 3-2 but Brown made a sprawling save on Bootland to keep this game tied at 2-2. The Americans tied the game up at 2-2 as Darryl Bootland shot the puck as it rebounded off Brown’s pad as Anthony Maiani buried it for his 13th goal of the season at the 4:41 mark. Mike Berbube and Petovello, who was on fire, dropped the mitts as Petovello took down Berbube.
Ron Myers scored his 2nd goal of the game and 7th goal of the season as he was in front of the net at the 17:58 mark as the Americans fall to the Sundogs, 3-2. The next game for the Allen Americans is on Friday night when they face the Bloomington Blaze at the Allen Event Center.
