About the Dallas Stars
The Dallas Stars enter tonight’s action in the midst of a three-game winless streak (0-2-1). The woes continued for the Stars on Monday in a 2-1 loss Columbus as they had a 1-0 lead in the second period but a series of penalties on them allowed momentum to shift for the Blue Jackets, who rallied for two goals from Derek Dorsett and Vinny Prospal.
Jamie Benn, who signed a contract last week, made his season debut, picking up one assist in 20:47 of playing time. Reilly Smith will be playing tonight against the Red Wings after being scratched yesterday.
Kari Lehtonen will make the start in net against the Red Wings.
Injuries: C Derek Roy (groin), D Aaron Rome (flu) and G Cristopher Nilstorp (groin) are out.
About the Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings this year are playing without the services of Nicklas Lidstrom and Tomas Holmstrom who both retired before the season started.Despite the solid effort against the Blackhawks, Detroit was unable to notch what would have been a second straight win as Corey Crawford shined in a 2-1 overtime loss at Chicago on Sunday night. Johan Franzen scored the only goal for the Red Wings, as Crawford denied the other 29 shots Detroit recorded.
Jimmy Howard will make the start in the net against the Stars.
Injuries: C Darren Helm (back) is doubtful. G Jonas Gustavsson (groin) is questionable. D Carlo Colaiacovo (shoulder), D Ian White (leg), and F Mikael Samuelsson (groin) are out.
