Coyotes Down The Stars, 2-0

Stars can’t solve Mike Smith in 2-0 loss to the Coyotes

Back to back games for the Dallas Stars have not been a pretty picture for them. They were trying to break that as they faced the Phoenix Coyotes, the same team they defeated last night 4-3 in the shootout. The back to back woes continued tonight as the Phoenix Coyotes shutout the Dallas Stars, 2-0. Their offense has been nonexistent during the road trip and it showed during the game.

There was no scoring in the first period as the Stars out skated the Coyotes and they were the better team and had more energy in the back to back game with the Coyotes. They had the better quality chances as Jamie Benn had two beautiful scoring chances but Mike Smith stoned him with the blocker and glove. It was a different story in the second period as the Stars had only one shot on goal and went into penalty trouble. Then the scoring started off as the Coyotes took a 1-0 lead as Nick Johnson who wrist shot in the slot that went past Bachman’s glove from a nice pass by Lauri Korpikoski at the 11:57 mark.

At the beginning of the third period, the Stars had a chance to tie the game up as Smith who didn’t have his stick, stoned Jaromir Jagr with the blocker side. While Michael Ryder was in the box for boarding, Mikael Boedker, on the power play, got a juicy rebound off a point shot and stuff the rebound past Bachman’s blocker side at the 2:47 mark in the third period to make it 2-0. Next game is Monday night as they face the Colorado Avalanche at 8pm as they will try to find their offense and not take any more penalties.
