The Texas Stars went into the Copps Coliseum for a win against the Hamilton Bulldogs to start their two game road trip in Ontario but they lost 2-1. The Stars had a good tempo to the first period against the Bulldogs as Luke Gazdic almost scored but Robert Mayer, who started in net for the Bulldogs, was too quick with the pads. On the power play, Matt Fraser almost made it 1-0 as he shot the puck fast but it hit the post.
Then Luke Gazdic started the scoring off as he shot the puck off a rebound goal from a Taylor Vause shot for a 1-0 lead in the 2nd period at the 4:14 mark. On a breakaway, Jack Campbell, who started in net for the Stars, came up big with the glove grab on Kyle Hagel in the 2nd period that kept it 1-0. Alex Chiasson sent the puck out to Carl Sneep at the point and he missed it. The velocity on the puck carried it down the ice and into the Texas net. Jason DeSantis got credit for the goal. Jack Campbell kept the game tied after stopping another breakaway change before the 2nd period ended.
Then in the third period, Matt Fraser had two blank shots but was denied by Meyers to keep the score at 1-1. Jack Campbell denied a dangerous shot by Mike Blunden after a Hubert Labrie turnover. A few minutes later, Jack Campbell couldn’t keep up with the second chance on a rebound as Greg Pateryn buried the goal top shelf to make it 2-1. The Texas Stars had a few more chances to tie the game but Meyers kept his bulldogs in the game.
Tomorrow night the Texas Stars will try and find answers as they face the Toronto Marlines at the Ricoh Coliseum at 3 pm.
