A tough test awaited the Dallas Stars tonight as they traveled west to take on the reigning Stanley Cup Champions Los Angeles Kings, who were on a 7 game winning streak. The Stars snapped the Kings winning streak and won 5-2. The Stars were better with the puck and their power play also helped them win too as they were two for three.
To start the game off, the Stars look rested, strong on the puck, winning battles and made crisp passes. They started the scoring off on the power play as Jamie Benn fed Jaromir Jagr a beautiful pass as Jagr ripped it past Jonathan Quick that made it 1-0. The Stars had trouble clearing the puck that caused the Kings to score the tying goal as Trevor Lewis elevated the puck past Lehtonen’s blocker side.
Reilly Smith, who was having a great game, tried to make it 2-1 in the 2nd period but he rung it off the post. While on the power play, the Stars turned the puck over as Jeff Carter passed it to Mike Richards who was stopped by Kari Lehtonen. The Kings went up 2-1 as Jeff Carter bounced the puck in off of Jordie Benn and passed Lehtonen. Then the Stars tied the game up at 2-2 on the power play as Cody Eakin with a slick stick worked through a crowd and then backhanded the puck past Quick’s glove.
Then in the third period, Reilly Smith took two defenders into a corner as Cody Eakin found the loose puck and passed the puck to Brenden Morrow who was alone in front as he jammed one past Quick that made it 3-2. Then Jagr scored his 2nd goal of the game as he buried the puck past Quick, who couldn’t control the rebound after an initial shot by Benn.
