Allen, Texas–After coming off a 4-3 loss to the Fort Worth Brahmas, the Allen Americans (37-16-9) faced the 2nd place Wichita Thunder (36-18-8) tonight. The Americans fell 4-3 to the Thunder after tying the game up in the second period.
Starting the first period, the Allen Americans spent way too much time in their zone and couldn’t find any rhythm to their game. Passes were not crisp and the puck was turned over far too many times. The sloppy play cost them as Neil Trimm slapped the puck pass Steve Silverthorn’s glove side at the 10:47 mark in the first period to make it 1-0. The goal was Trimm’s 35th of the season. At the 2:55 mark, the Thunder took a 2-0 lead as Trimm sailed a beautiful to Dave Inman, who slapped it past Silverthorn’s glove for his 11th goal of the season.
The Thunder extended their lead to 3-0 with a slap shot from Ian Lowe, his second of the game and his 12th goal of the season, at the 13:35 mark. That was it for Steve Silverthorn who allowed five goals on eight shots. Aaron Dell took his place between the posts. The change stirred the Americans as Chris Doyle’s wrist shot off a centering pass escaped Torrie’s glove at the 12:33 mark to make it 3-1. That was Doyle’s 3rd goal of the season. The Americans closed the point gap to 3-2 when Todd Robinson sent Doyle a beautiful pass and Doyle snapped it passed Jung’s glove for his second goal of the game and fourth of the season. While on the power play, a back door play by Tyler Ludwig tied the game up at 3-3. It was Ludwig’s 11th goal of the season.
The Thunder made it 4-3 with just 1:12 left in the third period. The goal was scored by Matt Robinson for his 12th goal of the season after getting a nice center feed from Matt Summers, allowing Robinson to slap the puck past Dell’s blocker side.
The next game for the Americans is on Friday when they will again face the Wichita Thunder. The game begins at 7pm at the Intrust Bank Arena.
