On Monday night, the Dallas Stars went into the American Airlines Center to face the Anaheim Ducks, looking for another win before they head on the road to Anaheim to face the Ducks again. Their efforts were silenced one by one, falling to Anaheim 4-0. The Ducks scored three goals in a 4:49 span of the second period to break the game open, while goaltender Viktor Fasth stopped 26 shots for his third shutout of the season.
Bobby Ryan got the Ducks on the score board first after Stephane Robidas took a penalty for hooking Ryan as he took a wrist shot from the left circle that went behind Lehtonen’s blocker at the 9:47 mark in the second period. The Ducks made it 2-0 a litte more than two and half minutes later when Corey Perry got the rebound from an intial shot by Ryan Getzlaf from the point at the 12:52 mark. Just two minutes later, Matt Belesky backhanded a puck behind Lehtonen after getting a nice pass from Kyle Palmiere at the 15:02 mark, giving the Ducks a 3-0 lead.
The Dallas Stars did have a few scoring chances on the power play, but all attempts were unsuccessful, and the three goals scored against them seemed to suck the energy out of the Stars. Dallas pulled Lehtonen with 1:18 remaining, but were unable to muster any additional chances with the extra skater. Teemu Selanne’s empty-netter with just 32 seconds left in the game sealed the deal for the Ducks.
Maybe the Stars will find a way to win or maybe not. But right now they have to figure out the Ducks and their goaltending. The Stars have a few days off before they head to the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim to take on the Ducks yet again. The game starts at 9:30 pm on Wednesday night, and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Southwest.
