Independence, Missouri- If you were looking for an exciting game, you got one in the CHL’s Second Round Game 3. The Allen Americans looked to take a 2-1 series lead over the Missouri Mavericks at the Independence Events Center, and they did with a game-winning goal by Allen’s Trevor Hendrikx , who claimed the 3-2 victory for the Americans at the 18:01 mark in overtime.
The Americans struck first in the game, with Jason Deitsch scoring on a wrist shot from the left circle that pushed the puck past Missouri goalie Mike Clemente, giving the Americans a 1-0 lead at 9:39 of the second period. Clemente’s biggest save of the game came in the second period off a rebound that was destined for the net, but his right foot found the puck instead.
Missouri’s Eric Meland ripped a slap shot from the point to tie the game at 1-1 at the 5:25 of the third period. Just four minutes later, Missouri’s Colt King jumped out of the penalty box and into a 2 on 1 with John-Scott Dickson. Dickson buried the puck past Allen goalie Aaron Dell to put the Mavericks up 2-1. The Americans tied the game at two with a wrist shot from Trevor Ludwig that snuck the puck just inside the post and behind Clemente with 2:20 left in the third period.
Trevor Hendrikx scored the game winner at the 18:01 mark in overtime giving the Americans the 3-2 victory, and a 2-1 series lead.
The Mavericks out-shot the Americans 40-34. Dell made 38 saves on the 40 shots he faced for the win, while Mike Clemente made 31 saves on the 34 shots he faced.
