It’s no secret the Phoenix Coyotes haven’t established what many would call a following out in Arizona, but with rumors and speculation swirling about the league moving the team to Seattle, one can only wonder why.
Sure the team is having issues with leasing an arena for the 2014 season, but that’s not something Seattle has pinned down either. Hockey isn’t huge in Glendale, but it’s also not huge in Seattle.
And let’s point out the most obvious: moving Phoenix to Seattle would leave the Av’s stuck in the middle of the country among a division of West Coasters. Sure, the move could provide a sexy little rivalry with the Vancouver Canucks, but it could also alienate a market in the southwestern United States that has slowly but surely begun to rally behind an NHL team that has pushed its way to the playoffs in three of the past four years.
And who in Arizona is going to pass up an opportunity to sit in one of the coldest buildings in the state for the right price?
It’ll be interesting to see how the scenario plays out, but until it does, we want to hear what you think about the potential move. Give us a yes or no, and jot down your reasons why in the comments section.
