The 2012-2013 hockey season has sadly, come to a close. Congratulations to the Chicago Blackhawks on winning the 2013 Stanley Cup, and in brilliant fashion. If you missed game six, either in its entirety or the last minute and a half, be sure to check it out. It’s truly hockey greatness. We won’t be focusing on Chicago in today’s links, though. We’ll be looking at what could but the Stars back in contention for the race next year.
Dallas continues to re-sign young talent in an effort to build up the Stars of the future. Last week it was Colton Sceviour and Kevin Connauton. Yesterday, it was Matt Fraser and Cameron Gaunce. Fraser skated in 12 games with Dallas during the short season, and scored a goal and recorded three assists in his time in Dallas’ black and gold. Fraser led the Texas Stars in goals, and closed out the season at second in points. It’s safe to say we can expect much, much more from the 25-year-old next season.
Buyouts seem to be happening around the league, and one name in particular popped up after a rocky stint in New York this season. Brad Richards. But would it be worth it for Dallas to reach out to Richards after the organization seemed to relieved to not have to cut that paycheck anymore? I’d say pass.
Finally, as with campaign season, as soon as the hockey season’s over, it’s time to start looking ahead to what’s coming next. Bovada sports betting is already sharing the odds for which teams are most likely to win the 2014 Stanley Cup and even what to expect in the quickly-approaching draft. Don’t get your hopes up for Dallas next season though.
