Dallas Stars expected to name Jamie Benn the new Captain

Well, I think it’s pretty safe to say that we all saw this coming.

Mike Heika, the well-respected man who covers the Stars for the Dallas Morning News, tweeted earlier this morning that the Stars are expected name Jamie Benn the new captain today (September 19th) at 1:30 pm during a press conference. His post regarding this can be seen here.

This will be a very exciting season for Benn, who has reaffirmed our predictions of becoming the new face of the franchise. Being named captain and moving back to his original position with Tyler Seguin centering his line is a good thing for both Benn and the Stars. After the olympic camp snub, Benn will be looking to prove something, and this boost of confidence alongside his new comfortable line placement is all but certain to increase his performance.

According to this link, Benn had the following to say regarding team Canada not inviting him to the tournament: “It gives you a little fire… I just want to kind of shove it in their face.”

That’s the fire that this team needs, and I’m certain it won’t go unnoticed.

No word on the assistant captains yet… I will update this post with more info post-press-conference if need be.

What do you think about the selection? Do you think that someone else deserved the “C”? Let me know with a comment or tweet me @JLKirlik.
