The Dallas Stars came so close to a comeback yet so far away. Most people on the East coast probably went to bed at the first period with the score reading 4-0 Ducks and the clock approaching midnight. What the East coast missed was a comeback that with 6 minutes left had the Stars within a goal of a huge comeback but it wasn’t in the cards on Wednesday night in Game #1.
The question heading to Game #2 is which Cup are we believing? The Cup half empty is one that is tough to swallow that’s for sure. The Stars looked like they didn’t belong in the first period with the defense struggling and pucks finding the back of the net. The Stars didn’t do anything right and it showed when the horn sounded for the first intermission and the scoreboard read 4-0. The first period score said something loud and clear…It’s going to be a short series and the Stars will be golfing really soon. This wasn’t the period any Stars fans could have imagined.
The Cup half full is the fact the Stars outscored the Ducks 3-0 in the final 40 minutes and came within a goal with 6 minutes to play. The Stars in the 2nd and 3rd period proved they did belong in the Stanley Cup playoffs and could be the tough out that all the experts predicted before the playoffs began.
The game is 60 minutes and the Stars learned a tough lesson in Game #1. Will they learn from their lesson in Game #2 and make this a long series or will the mistakes of the first period rear it’s ugly head in Game #2. Let’s hope that Cup is Half Full come Game #2!!
