When I wrote Dustin Jeffrey’s report card, I said that Jeffrey was a vital part to the franchise and to the upcoming Dallas Stars, as well as a more than helpful hand down in Austin, especially during this Cup run.
Last night was a perfect example of his talent in motion.
With his young age and fast paced ability along with his gift in the physicality department and offensive skill, he is a valuable guy to have on your bench, whichever bench that may be. He is a perfect void filler as he proved this season when filling in for the miscellany of injuries the Stars experienced. He can be there when they need him and when he isn’t desired, he can be dangling around whoever down in Cedar Park. His help will be greatly appreciated.
But his contract is set to go kapoot this offseason and he will turn into an RFA, meaning he can’t leave the Stars until he at least gives the Stars to match any offer he receives from different teams. The Stars will have plenty of open cap space and they could really sweeten Jeffrey’s new deal. And honestly, with how much fun he’s having in the AHL as we speak and the new Dallas Stars on a hopefully rising level, why would he want to say no?
On the other hand, his trade stock would be very low and he wouldn’t be able to bring home the bacon (sorry Thornton or Spezza hehe) that Jim Nill is drooling for unless he were attached to a long tenured NHL player that would be the prime rib of the deal.
But enough of my opinion, let’s hear yours! VOTE below on how you think Dustin Jeffrey’s case should be handled by the Dallas Stars’ this upcoming season:
