In my report card on Rich Peverley, I was basically set with my opinion. Peverley needs to stay in Big D for a longer duration than 3/4 of a season.
Rich Peverley came to Dallas as a sweetener to the main Seguin-Eriksson deal, but ended up being a steal in the July 4th blockbuster deal. In his 62 games before his heart incident, he skated among the best as well as leading the washed up lines. He was able to knock down 7 goals and feed 23 assists in his cut-short season. Whether he was on the top line with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin, or helping out on the bottom line with Ray Whitney and Shawn Horcoff, he was always the electric pulse on the offensive side of the puck. His ability to find gaps in the defense and exploit them for easy goals or set-ups is uncanny and he has a very powerful wrist shot. Along with his friendliness (probably one of the top 3 nicest guys I’ve ever met) and chemistry to every player in the locker room, he fit in perfectly at the AAC and will continue to fit in, if he gets the chance.
But the real reason Peverley should stay is because of his adoration from the entire city. Not to say that we don’t adore every player on the Stars, but Peverley’s situation is special. What we “went through” when Rich Peverley went down on the bench with a heart malfunction back on March 10th, a day that no true Stars fan shall ever forget, the city rallied around him. With this incident, Peverley gained the love that he truly deserves. His compassion for his team passed on to the fans gaining compassion for his presence on the ice. With his skill-set and the fans’ adoration of him, I think he needs to stick around for a little while longer, including longer than the 1 year he has left on his contract. He is flexible and can play where you need him to play, no matter who or what line or position it involves.
