Dallas Stars: A New Day Has Dawned

Good morning and Happy July, Dallas Stars fans!

It’s almost here, and I hope y’all are ready like I am (I didn’t sleep last night, too many scenarios going through my thick skull).

But the free agent market has finally arrived and is ready to jump the gun. So I thought that I’d give you a quick refresher with some FAQ’s you’re probably thinking about while reading this (it’s all gonna be okay).

Here are a few questions to help you flex your mind on this Tuesday morning, and if you don’t like my answer, BY ALL MEANS hit me up in the comments with how you’re thinking:

FAQ’s On The Stars’ Offseason Moves Ahead:

1. Josh, all your second line center talk is making me want to bang my head against a wall. Is Spezza, Stastny, or Thornton our guy?

In my mind, Jason Spezza is the Stars’ only target at the moment. Paul Stastny is being ferociously hunted by 15 teams at the moment and Joe Thornton is perfectly content with holding onto his NTC and sticking to San Jose for a little while longer, though it doesn’t seem that the fans want him. Spezza is being targeted by TWO teams, one being Dallas and the other being St. Louis. If the Stars target Stastny or Thornton and spend too much time fighting for a slim chance of picking up either of them, they may as well put the white flag up because St. Louis will scoop Spezza easily. The Stars need to focus on Spezza, and it looks as though they just did (I saw the post while writing this!!! GO STARS).

2. What’s our final stance on the backup goalie?

Wait for free agency. It’s gonna be a toss-up between Chad Johnson and Thomas Greiss, though the Stars may end up calling Jack Campbell or Cristopher Nilstorp. All ideas would work, but the soonest you see a choice on the new backup is at least a few days into FA.

3. Any key defenders coming to Big D?

There must be. Tyler Myers is a prime choice, though there are a few good names in the free agency. Niskanen is a no-go because he is looking for a max deal and Nill is not looking for more than a 3 or 4 year contract to be handed out. I honestly have no ideas besides Myers, but Nill loves some of the Texas Stars players, so we may see a few farm prospects by the end of the offseason. Stay tuned on that.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to leave them below and I will surely answer them!
