Good afternoon, Stars fans. It seems as though the trivia question yesterday will end up being ineligible again because of the continuous lack of hitting the bare minimum of views on each countdown post. But, as always, everyone got the question right and I will continue to put them up.
91 days until the Stars open their season against the Chicago Blackhawks on October 9th.
The Dallas Stars will look to start the season off on the right foot and take a win against the Blackhawks, a team they have truly struggled against over the last few years. Yesterday the Hawks re-signed both Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane to eight year contracts worth $10,500,000 per year, EACH. The highest paid player on the Stars is Jason Spezza, who brought his contract of $7,000,000 a year with him from Ottawa. The Stars still have plenty of cap space to use but it seems as though Jim Nill is done reeling in big names, at least for this offseason. Besides Spezza, the Stars second highest paid player is Kari Lehtonen at $5,900,000 a year. The debate came up yesterday from a Twitter person that the Stars had no one worth Toews/Kane money and that’s why the Hawks beat the Stars by 5+ goals every time they meet.
Well, for a quick defensive point, the Stars finished with two players, Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn, in the Top Ten in goals scored. Chicago had one player, Patrick Sharp, who finished at tenth. So as you can see, it seems as though Seguin and Benn are “worth” more than Kane and Toews, especially when these two’s contracts equal up to one of their contracts. The Stars have some trouble on the ice against the Hawks, no doubt, but that is why October 9th is “the perfect start” for the Stars.
The countdown is still ticking and we’re one day closer. Keep the faith and be ready because October 9th will be a sight to see.
