Dallas Stars Power Countdown: 52 Days: Top Game of 13-14

It’s Monday and it’s time for a new week! The countdown is still live as well! 52 days until the Dallas Stars open up their season against the Chicago Blackhawks on October 9th at the American Airlines Center.

Today, I’m going to start up a new series. I meant to start this up at the beginning of July but got caught up in all of the mess that is the NHL offseason. But now that there is a bit of down time, now is the time to start it up!

I have made a bracket, one like you would see for the NBA or NHL playoffs, of the 16 best games of the Dallas Stars 2013-2014 regular season. I’m sure you will agree entirely with the 16 games I have chosen, and if not, then just play along and comment at the end with which one you feel should have been given a chance and won.

So, I will put a poll up for each of the next 15 days featuring one of the games, with a brief argument for why it should be considered. Then, you can go to the bottom and vote on which one you think deserves to move on to the next round. The poll will expire 24 hours after it is put up, just in time for the next bracket of games to be put up. At the end of the Sweet 16, I will announce the winners of the entire round and start up the Elite 8, and so on and so forth. Sound fun? If so, great! If not, oh well.

Here is the first piece of the bracket and the first game of this playoffs: Dallas Stars @ Detroit Red Wings on November 7th VS. Vancouver Canucks @ Dallas Stars on March 6th

Dallas @ Detroit, 4-3 F (OT):

This one easily made the Sweet 16. The fact that Detroit is a long-time rival of the Dallas Stars and that Dallas successfully won in OT in front of a Joe Louis crowd is just a magnificent thought to conceive. From Jamie Benn’s sweet dangles that stood tall against Pavel Datsyuk’s later in the game, to Cody Eakin’s equalizer with 70 seconds to go in regulation, along with Rich Peverley’s OT winning beauty, it was a great game. Did I mention that it was two days after the Stars beat the Bruins at TD Garden in a shootout?

Here’s a clip to help you reminisce:

Vancouver @ Dallas, 6-1 F:

This was just a sight to behold on so many different levels: and I enjoyed the pleasure of being able to see it live!

Two words: Tyler Seguin. Seguin notched his third hat trick of the season, fourth of his career, in this game and made sure he put on a show for the Dallas Stars fans in attendance. Not only did Seguin score three, Benn found himself one, so did Alex Goligoski and Ryan Garbutt. It was an offensive onslaught that involved Eddie Lack, the new Canucks starting goaltender after the Roberto Luongo trade two days earlier, being pulled and replaced by Jacob Markstrom. To make things even better, the Stars were outshot 33-22 but Kari Lehtonen stood tall, stopping 32 of 33. The Stars defeated a struggling Canucks squad, only pushing them further down into an insurmountable hole that snapped down on their playoff chances.

So, you vote now! Be on the lookout tomorrow for the next edition of this playoffs series! You have until 2:30 PM CST on Tuesday, August 19 to cast your vote and help the game you thought was better to move on! VOTE BELOW.

Which Was The Better Game Of The Stars 2013-2014 Regular Season?

  • Stars @ Red Wings (79%, 19 Votes)
  • Canucks @ Stars (21%, 5 Votes)
