Dallas Stars Power Countdown: 49 Days: Top Game of 13-14

It’s now Thursday, and the weekend is creeping up. So is the Stars season opener! 49 days until the Dallas Stars open their season up against the Chicago Blackhawks on October 9th at the American Airlines Center.

I’ve started a new series, and if you didn’t catch yesterday’s poll, tough luck.

I have made a bracket, one like you would see for the NBA or NHL playoffs, of the 16 best games of the Dallas Stars 2013-2014 regular season. I’m sure you will agree entirely with the 16 games I have chosen, and if not, then just play along and comment at the end with which one you feel should have been given a chance and won.

So, I will put a poll up for each of the next 15 days featuring one of the games, with a brief argument for why it should be considered. Then, you can go to the bottom and vote on which one you think deserves to move on to the next round. The poll will expire 24 hours after it is put up, just in time for the next bracket of games to be put up. At the end of the Sweet 16, I will announce the winners of the entire round and start up the Elite 8, and so on and so forth. Sound fun? If so, great! If not, oh well.

Yesterday, the third of eight polls in the first round went up, featuring the Anaheim Ducks @ Dallas Stars on November 26th game facing off against the Minnesota Wild @ Dallas Stars “Modano Night” on March 8th game. I’ll announce the winner of that one once all the other polls have been voted on and accounted for.

TODAY’S MATCHUP: Dallas Stars @ Los Angeles Kings on December 23rd VS. Dallas Stars @ Ottawa Senators on November 3rd

Dallas @ Los Angeles, 5-2 F:

This game truly had the “holiday spirit” attached. The Stars traveled to the Staples Center for their last game before Christmas and picked the Kings apart piece-by-piece. In a triumphant 5-2 victory that included Jamie Benn landed a fistful right in Robyn Regehr’s kisser to members of the Stars squad wishing you a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays in their tribute video, the Stars continued their winning ways from here throughout the rest of December.

Dallas @ Ottawa, 4-3 F (SO):

This was a nail-biter, and if you watched it, you will agree with me. After the Stares coughed up a 2-0 lead towards the end of the second period, it seemed as though all hope was regained when Antoine Roussel scored one off of his foot. Until Bobby Ryan got a wise idea. After Craig Anderson was leveled in a scuffle around the crease and wheeled off on a stretcher, the Sens emptied their net as time ticked down. Ryan scored on a snap shot from the blue line with 10 seconds remaining, ultimately sending the game to overtime and a shootout where Jamie Benn saved the day with a wrister. Great game on a cold Sunday afternoon.

So, you vote now! Be on the lookout tomorrow for the next edition of this playoffs series! You have until 2:30 PM CST on Friday, August 22 to cast your vote and help the game you thought was better to move on! VOTE BELOW.
