As the countdown continues to roll, a few different dates come into play. Two days remain until the Dallas Stars open up training camp, five days remain until the Dallas Stars first preseason game against the St. Louis Blues, and 22 days until the Dallas Stars open up their 2014-2015 campaign against the Chicago Blackhawks on October 9th at the American Airlines Center.

Dallas Stars Finish Second In Traverse City Tournament:

Yesterday, the Dallas Stars competed in the championship game of the Traverse City Tournament against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Though they fought hard and the game trickled into overtime, they lost off of a deflection. Here’s a quick recap:

Columbus began the game with an early goal and took the lead, 1-0. About halfway through the first, Radek Faksa came back and scored to tie the game at 1. In the second period, Brendan Ranford scored off of a penalty shot and gave the Stars their first lead of the game, 2-1. The Blue Jackets scored with just under three minutes left in the second to tie it up. Dallas held a narrow shot margin at the end of each period, and by the end of the third, no winner was clear. In overtime, the Blue Jackets found a deflection in front and won the Traverse City Tournament.

The Stars will not have their name put on the Centre Ice Arena wall for another year, but this should not be a depressant in the slightest. The Stars had a great run, beating the New York Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes, and Buffalo Sabres on their run. Though they lost Brett Ritchie, the injury will only hold him for two weeks, though it hurts Ritchie’s chances of competing for a spot on the Dallas Stars team this year at training camp. But the Stars prospects competed well, and the future seems very bright for this organization.

Names that stood out were Brett Ritchie, Julius Honka, Henri Kiviaho, and Brendan Ranford.
